RRI.CO.ID, Jayapura - The Paguyuban Sosial Marga Tionghoa Indonesia (PSMTI) of Jayapura City, Papua Province has transformed the Lunar New Year 2577 celebrations into a powerful engine for local economic growth. To achieve this, they have enlisted 36 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for an eight-day festival.

Running from February 24 to March 3, 2026, at Papua Trade Center (PTC) Entrop in Jayapura City, the event blends cultural tradition with entrepreneurship, offering a strategic platform for local vendors to thrive during the symbolic transition into the Year of the Fire Horse.

Teddy Purwanto, Chairperson of PSMTI Jayapura, explained that the festival honors the Year of the Fire Horse, a period associated with high energy, courage, and rapid movement. This zodiac sign is believed to open vast opportunities in trade and energy development, provided that decision-makers remain precise and firm.

"The Year of the Fire Horse also brings a growing economic dynamic, but competition and change are necessary," noted Teddy during the event on Wednesday, February 26, 2026.

He urged the public to maintain balance and avoid recklessness, emphasizing that emotional control, cooperation, and discipline are vital to navigating this year’s intensity. "We hope the great energy of the fire horse year can be transformed into progress and prosperity for the entire community," he added, as quoted by Antara.

The initiative has received strong backing from the local administration, with Jayapura Deputy Mayor, Rustan Saru, praising the festival for its inclusive approach. He highlighted that the event successfully provides essential space for the MSME sector to flourish while simultaneously strengthening the social fabric of the city.

"We support religious and cultural activities that involve MSMEs because this also strengthens brotherhood in Jayapura City," remarked Rustan.

He further noted that the timing of the festival is particularly beneficial due to increased foot traffic and commercial activity. This surge is expected to significantly boost income for small businesses as they prepare for the upcoming fasting month. ***
